Hola from Equipo Despuerto!
Monday morning our group ate breakfast together and then climbed the 7 floors up to the rooftop to have worship with the entire Iowa team. After worship, we prayed as a group and headed to the Supermercado to pick up lunch before going to campus. Once we got to campus, we split into groups to share the gospel with the students. We also reunited with many friends from previous years.
Toward the end of our day, we were getting ready to leave for dinner, and our Dominican friend Izael encouraged us to talk to three girls sitting outside of the languages building. Erik, Mitch, and Stephanie started sharing the gospel with them. Another friend joined them shortly after we began sharing, and the group continued to grow until we were sharing with 17 people! Thankfully our friend, Steve Rosa, joined us to help translate. Some were Christians and were encouraged by what we were doing and wanted to help their friends learn about Jesus. They were excited when we handed out the information about “Intercambios” (an opportunity for Dominicans to practice English with native speakers) and many told us that they would join us later this week.
We then went to an authentic Dominican restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed spending time with Steve, a Christian from the Dominican Republic whom we met a few years ago and have gotten to know fairly well. We also enjoyed getting to know a new friend, Dairon. He and Mitch have become good friends – and we’ve appreciated the time investing in him. Alicia also joined us. We had fun laughing and learning about the Dominican from her.
After our dinner of delicious Dominican food, we looked at our bill and saw that we had been able to feed 9 people for $28. We also may or may not have eaten about three dessert courses that night. :) It was a good night of fellowship for our group.
Please continue to pray that the gospel would go out and that we would be able to disciple people. God is at work in the DR – and we are thankful to be working alongside Him!
